Vietnam Delegation Impressed by 3D Virtual Mine

The Australian Centre for Sustainable Mining Practices (ACSMP) at UNSW Mining Engineering, was pleased to host a significant delegation from Vietnam last month. The group consisted of the Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, HE Nguyen Minh Quang and senior staff from his department. They were particularly interested in finding out about sustainable mining given the international reputation of ACSMP.

The delegation was welcomed by Prof Graham Davies former dean of the Faculty of Engineering and presentations were made by Dr Wendy Timms and Associate Professor David Laurence.

"The highlight of the visit was the demonstration of the capabilities of our mining visualisation system (3D Virtual Reality Simulator). Vietnam has considerable potential for future mining and minerals education and the School of Mining Engineering continues to be active in that domain," explained Professor Laurence.

The visit was facilitated by Austrade, with whom ACSMP continue to enjoy a strong relationship with, in numerous international settings.
